Professor Joo received his BA and MA degrees from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature at Yonsei University. He also has an MA degree from the Department of Asian Languages and Literatures at the University of Texas at Austin and a Ph.D. degree from the Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations at the University of Chicago. At EIC, he teaches courses on East Asian culture, literature, and society. He also taught courses relating to Western and Japanese colonialism, Korean society and culture, and Korean literature and language at the University of Chicago and the University of Texas at Austin before joining EIC. His research interests lie in modern Chinese history and culture, Chinese intellectual history and journalism, and the history of Sino-Korean relations.

Professor Tilland received her PhD in Sociocultural Anthropology from the University of Washington in 2015. She also completed a graduate certificate in Feminist Studies and a MA in International Studies (Korea Studies) from the University of Washington, and a BA in East Asian Languages and Cultures from Lawrence University (WI). Her research interests include changing family dynamics and ideologies in South Korea; food politics and urban-rural tensions; anthropology of affect, emotions, and the senses; media representation; feminist methodologies; and transnational East Asian popular culture.

Professor Paradise graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) with a Ph.D. degree in Political Science. His research is focused on international trade and monetary issues, with particular reference to the Asia-Pacific region. He is also interested in international organizations, in particular the World Trade Organization (WTO). Born in New York City, he has spent many years in Asia, mostly in Japan where he worked as a stock market and industry analyst and in China, where he carried out research for his dissertation on China and the WTO. At Yonsei, he teaches courses on economics, such as International Economics, Macroeconomics, and East Asian Economic Systems. His publications include articles on Confucius Institutes, China's education diplomacy and international social justice.

Professor Xiangfeng Yang holds a Master’s from Nanjing University and a Ph.D. in Political Science and International Relations from the University of Southern California (USC). He has published on Chinese and Japanese foreign policy in some leading academic journals, and has held fellowships at Waseda University, University of British Columbia, Korea University, and the East-West Center in Hawaii. Before coming to Yonsei, he was a regular faculty member at University of North Georgia.

Professor Donata Bessey graduated with a Ph.D. in management and economics from the University of Zurich in 2010 and with a M.Sc. in economics from the University of Tuebingen in 2005. Before joining EIC in 2014, she spent two years as an assistant professor at Yonsei University’s department of economics and was a post-doctoral fellow at Seoul National University’s department of economics. Her research interests lie in the field of applied microeconomics, especially education and health economics, where she is using both empirical and experimental research methods and has published several research articles in academic journals.

JaHyun Chun is an Assistant Professor at the Department of International Relations and EIC. Chun’s research interests include international reconciliation, foreign policy, and conflict management. She received her Ph.D. in Political Science from Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea and was a Post-doctoral Visiting Fellow at American Institute for Contemporary German Studies at Johns Hopkins University in Washington D.C. Her publications appeared and will appear in Interventions: Post Colonial Studies, Japanese Journal of Political Science, Pacific Focus, International Journal, Asia Europe Journal, International Politics, and Handbook of Memory and Reconciliation.

Professor Suk Hyun received his graduate and doctoral degrees in Economics from Keio University and his undergraduate degree from Yonsei University. Prior to joining EIC in 2018, he was a visiting scholar in the Department of Economics, University of Southern California and a research fellow at Korea Capital Market Institute (KCMI). He also served as a secretariat representing Korea in the ASEAN+3 Bond Market Forum. He worked as an economist at Bank of Korea and also as a bond market specialist in charge of the Asian Bond Markets Initiative (ABMI) Task Force at Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC). His expertise lies in international finance, capital market, and Japanese economy with recent research covering infrastructure bond, green bond and Asian capital market development and integration.
