Prof. Osawa’s educational background contains experiences at both Japanese and American institutions. After attending Keio University in Japan for two years, she transferred to Smith College (USA) where she received BA degree from the Department of Government. After graduation from Smith College, Prof. Osawa went back to Japan and completed her MA degree in Public Administration at International Christian University. Prof. Osawa then received PhD degree in 2011 from the Department of Political Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (USA).
Prof. Osawa’s research and teaching interests lie in Japanese politics and gender politics. More specifically, she is interested in the construction of gender norms and effects of such norms on people’s lives. She is also interested in the roles of ideologies in politics, in particular conservative and nationalist ideologies.
